CAMPAIGN: CONTROL CABLE LOCK- MECHANISM (INSTALL CLAMP)

MODELS: 1988 C/K TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL (RPO K34)

DEFECT INVOLVED:

General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on some 1988 Chev. & GMC C/K Model Trucks equipped with cruise control (RPO K34). The cruise control cable lock mechanism may self-disengage. When this occurs, vibrations can cause the cable to readjust by itself resulting in erratic cruise control operation or the throttle not returning to idle. In this event, engine speed may not decrease to a level anticipated by the operator. Although the vehicle can still be stopped with the service brake, loss of accelerator control could result in a vehicle crash, without prior warning.

To prevent this condition from occurring, it will be necessary to install a clamp around the lock tab of the cruise cable on all involved vehicles.

Involved are certain 1988 C/K Model Trucks built within the following VIN breakpoints:

Plant From Throuqh

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
