REFINISHING BRAKE ROTOR SURFACES
1988 K1-2 model vehicles utilize "composite" front brake rotors. When refacing (turning) such rotors it is extremely important that the rotor be secured to the turning lathe exactly as it is mounted on the vehicle. To accomplish this, brake rotor adapter tool J-37620 must be used. Failure to use this tool can cause distortion of the rotor while mounting it to the lathe, thus resulting in unparallel rotor surfaces. This condition can cause brake pedal pulsation and/or vibration.
Adapter tool J-37620 has been made part of the 1989 GMC essential tool package and is scheduled for shipment to dealers late November, 1988.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
