Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23590 Spark Plug Port Adapter
    • J 5892-C Valve Spring Compressor
  1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  2. Remove the valve rocker arms. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  3. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plugs Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  4. Object Number: 66450  Size: SH
  5. Remove the valve keepers as follows:
  6. 4.1. Install the J 23590 into the spark plug hole.
    4.2. Apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.
    4.3. Install the valve rocker arm bolt.
    4.4. Use the J 5892-C to compress the valve spring.
    4.5. Remove the valve keepers.

            Important: Do not release the compressed air from the cylinder. The valve will fall into the cylinder and may cause damage.

    4.6. Carefully release the spring tension. Remove the J 5892-C .
  7. Remove the cap and the spring.
  8. Remove the valve stem oil seal.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23590 Spark Plug Port Adapter
    • J 5892-C Valve Spring Compressor
  1. Install the valve stem oil seal.
  2. Install the spring with the damper.
  3. Install the cap.

  4. Object Number: 66450  Size: SH
  5. Install the valve keepers as follows:
  6. 4.1. With compressed air still applied, compress the valve spring with the J 5892-C .
    4.2. Install the valve keepers. Apply grease to hold the valve keepers in place.
    4.3. Carefully release the spring tension. Make sure the valve keepers do not move. Remove the J 5892-C .
    4.4. Release compressed air from the cylinder.
    4.5. Remove J 23590 .
  7. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plugs Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  8. Remove the valve rocker arms. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  9. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
