Removal Procedure

  1. Remove fuel tank filler cap.

  2. Object Number: 55489  Size: SH
  3. Remove upper intake cover.

  4. Object Number: 55498  Size: SH
  5. Open air bleed valve on top of the fuel manager/filter to release any pressure in the fuel supply system.

  6. Object Number: 55503  Size: SH
  7. Remove element nut by turning it in a counterclockwise direction. If unable to turn by hand, a strap wrench (oil filter type) may be used to break loose the element nut.

  8. Object Number: 55505  Size: SH
  9. Remove the filter by lifting it straight up and out of the filter assembly. It is not necessary to drain fuel from the filter assembly to change the filter element since the fuel will remain in the filter assembly's cavity.

Installation Procedure

Important: Make sure the mating surface between the element assembly and the filter assembly is clean before installation.

  1. Install the new filter by aligning the widest key slot located under the element assembly cap with the widest key in the header assembly.

  2. Object Number: 55505  Size: SH
  3. Push the element, in a downwards direction until the mating surfaces make contact.
  4. Install the element nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the element nut securely by hand.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Bleed air from fuel manager/filter. Go to Fuel Supply System Air Bleed .

  8. Install the upper intake manifold cover.
  9. Install fuel tank filler cap.
