Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement Housing

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission assembly and the flywheel. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.

  2. Object Number: 4071  Size: SH
  3. Remove the following fasteners from the oil seal housing:
  4. • Three bolts using a T27 TORX® wrench and one nut.
    • Two lower studs using an E7 TORX®. If necessary.
    • Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Installation .

  5. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing gasket and discard.
  6. Clean all the sealing surfaces.
  7. Inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal housing housing for warping, cracks, wear, or damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing gasket.

  2. Object Number: 4072  Size: SH
  3. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal housing to the engine block. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Installation .

  4. Object Number: 4071  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the following fasteners to the oil seal housing:
  6. • Three bolts using a T27 TORX® wrench and one nut.
    • Two lower studs using an E7 TORX® wrench, if needed.

    Tighten

    • Tighten the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
    • Tighten the lower studs to 6 N·m (53 lb in), if needed.
    • Install the transmission assembly and the engine flywheel. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.

Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement Seal

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the flywheel and transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.

  2. Object Number: 31379  Size: SH
  3. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Insert a suitable tool into the access notches and then carefully pry the cranshaft rear oil seal from the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
  4. Discard the crankshaft rear oil seal.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 35621-A Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer.


    Object Number: 334550  Size: SH
  1. Use the J 35621-A in order to install the NEW oil seal.
  2. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal using the the Crankshaft Rear Mail Seal Installer. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Installation .

  3. Object Number: 69012  Size: SH
  4. Install the engine flywheel and transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement in Transmission/Transaxle.
