Removal Procedure
- On the 6.5L diesel and 5.0L/5.7L gas engines remove the nuts and washers retaining the clip to the stud.
- On the 7.4L gas engine remove the bolt and washer retaining the cord clip to the shock bracket.
- Remove the strap connecting the cord to the heater hose.
- Remove the cord from the engine block heater.
Installation Procedure
- Apply dielectric grease P/N 2G001884 to the front face of the heater cord connector.
- Connect the heater cord to the block heater.
- Route the heater cord along the heater hose.
- On the 7.4L gas engine install the washer to the shock bracket.
- Install the cord clip and the bolt retaining the cord to the bracket.
- On the 6.5L diesel and the 5.0L/5.7L gas engines, install the cord clip.
- Install the washers and nuts at both the shock lower bracket and frame member.
- Install the bolt retaining the cord clip to the bracket.
Caution: A block heater electrical cord that is damaged creates a shock hazard, and must be replaced.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt retaining the engine coolant heater cord bracket to
the engine to 8 N·m (6 lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the cord clip retaining bolt to 12 N·m
(106 lb in).
