Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel (IP) storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Remove the front screw from the right door sill plate.
- Remove the right hinge pillar trim plate. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the blower motor, as necessary.
- Remove the bolt from the right lower IP support.
- Remove the blower motor cover.
- Remove the motor cooling tube.
- Remove the blower motor flange screws and ferrules.
- Perform the following steps in order to remove the blower motor:
- Inspect the blower motor terminals for distortion.
- Clean corrosion from the terminals as necessary.
- Replace the blower motor as necessary.
- Inspect the flange of the blower motor for damage or distortion that may cause an air leak.
- Repair the flange as necessary.
- Inspect the blower fan for any damage and distortion.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
| • | Carefully pull the blower motor forward in order to avoid distorting the blower motor fan. |
| • | If necessary, pry back the right side of the IP. |
Installation Procedure
- Guide the blower motor and blower fan into position.
- Install the blower motor flange ferrules and screws.
- Install the blower motor cooling tube.
- Install the blower motor cover.
- Install the bolt to the right lower IP support.
- Install the electrical connectors to the blower motor, as necessary.
- Install the right hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
- Install the front screw into the door sill plate.
- Install the instrument panel storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Install the negative battery cable.
- Verify the circuit operation.
Be careful in order not to catch the blower fan on any protruding components.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the blower motor mounting screws to 2.1 N·m (20 lb in).
