Spring Shackle Replacement CK Model

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.

  3. Loosen the shackle to spring nut.
  4. Remove the shackle from the following parts:
  5. • The rear bracket bolt
    • The nut
    • The washers
  6. Remove the shackle from the following parts:
  7. • The spring nut
    • The washers
    • The bolt
  8. Remove the shackle from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shackle to the vehicle.
  2. Important: Do not tighten the fasteners until all the parts have been assembled.

  3. Install the shackle to the following parts:
  4. • The spring bolt
    • The washers
    • The nut

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the shackle to the following parts:
  6. • The rear bracket bolt
    • The washers
    • The nut

    Tighten

        • Tighten the leaf spring to bracket nuts to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
        • Tighten the leaf spring to shackle nut to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
        • Tighten the shackle to bracket nuts 95 N·m (70 lb ft).

  7. Adjust the spring height between the top surface of the axle jounce pad (3) and the bottom surface of the frame jounce bracket (6).

Spring Shackle Replacement Heavy Duty Chassis

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

    • The nut
    • The washers

    • The bolt
  8. Remove the shackle from the vehicle.

  5. Install the shackle to the following parts:

    • The washers
    • The nut

    Tighten

        • Tighten the leaf spring to bracket nuts to 415 N·m (306 lb ft).
        • Tighten the leaf spring to shackle nut to 213 N·m (157 lb ft).
        • Tighten the shackle to bracket nuts 213 N·m (157 lb ft).
