Spare Tire Carrier Replacement Suburban Models

Removal Procedure

The spare tire mounting for the Suburban is at the left rear wheel well. The Suburban uses a mount that is part of the body.

  1. Remove the spare tire cover.
  2. Remove the nut.
  3. Remove the adapter.
  4. Remove the spare tire.

  5. Object Number: 156780  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts from the support.
  7. Remove the support from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156780  Size: SH
  1. Install the support.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  5. Install the spare tire.
  6. 3.1. Install the spare tire.
    3.2. Install the adapter.
    3.3. Install the nut.
    3.4. Install the spare tire cover.

Spare Tire Carrier Replacement 2 Door Utility Models

Removal Procedure

The spare tire mounting for the 2 Door Utility models is at the left rear wheel well. A bracket retains the spare tire.

  1. Remove the spare tire cover.
  2. Remove the spare tire.
  3. Remove the nut from the bolt.
  4. Remove the adapter from the bolt.

  5. Object Number: 156787  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts from the carrier.
  7. Remove the carrier.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the carrier.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   3. Install the bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (32 lb ft).
