For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Inspect the fluid level and inspect the fluid condition.
  2. Do not run the vehicle if the fluid reservoir is empty. Prolonged usage without fluid will damage the pump.
  3. Fluid other than what is recommended can damage the seals.
  4. Ensure that no dirt, brake fluid, engine oil or any other contaminant other than the recommended fluid is present.
  5. It may be necessary to perform the following if other fluid is evident:
  6. 5.1. Completely disassemble the pump.
    5.2. Completely disassemble the gear.
    5.3. Clean the pump.
    5.4. Clean the gear.
    5.5. Flush the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Flushing .
  7. Clean all the suspected areas thoroughly before inspecting if the leak is not obvious.
  8. Inspect the pump.
  9. Inspect the gear.
  10. Inspect the hoses for cuts.
  11. Inspect the hoses for loose clamps.
  12. Inspect the hoses for loose fittings at the pump.
  13. Inspect the hoses for loose fittings at the gear.
  14. The point where fluid is dripping is not necessarily the point where the system is leaking. Identify the exact point of the leak. Refer to External Leakage Check .
