The automatic day-night mirrors consist of an automatic day-night rearview mirror with compass, temperature sensor outside air, an automatic day-night mirror for the left and right front doors.

Power for the control of the automatic mirrors comes from the GAUGES Fuse #4, with the Ignition in Run, through CKT 39 (PNK) to the manual switch mounted in the mirror. The mirror switch has three positions:

    • OFF; System Off
    • T/M; Temperature and Mirror Input
    • C/M; Compass and Mirror Input

Whether the switch is in either C/M or T/M power is sent to both the right and left side view mirrors through CKT 1690 (GRA). CKT 1691 (PNK) is the return signal for the side view mirrors into the automatic rearview mirror. Before this circuit returns back to the solid state controller, inside the mirror, an indicator light will light when the mirrors are operational.

The automatic rear view mirror uses 2 photocell sensors in order to determine light conditions in the front and the back of the vehicle. At night, as the glare of the headlamps from behind increases, the mirror gradually becomes darker in order to absorb the glare. In the daytime, the mirror is in a clear state.

When the gear selector is in reverse, the battery voltage, coming from the transmission range switch through CKT 24 (LT GRN), is applied to the automatic rearview mirror, the mirror will gradually change to a clear state. Ground for the automatic day-night mirror is supplied by ground G200, through CKT 150 (BLK).

The automatic rearview mirror sends its signal to the temperature sensor outside air through CKT 718 (BRN) and receives is signal back through CKT 735 (LT GRN/BLK).

On luxury models the automatic rearview mirror also provides the ambient light sensor input for the headlamp control module through CKT 1784 (YEL/BLK). This allows for the twilight sentinel operation.
