Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement Primary

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the hood.

  2. Object Number: 277519  Size: SH
  3. Remove the hood latch release cable from the latch (1). Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement
  4. Remove the bracket to the hood latch bolts (4,5).
  5. Remove the hood latch from the vehicle.
  6. Remove the bracket (2) to the radiator support bolts.
  7. Remove the bracket from the vehicle.
  8. Adjust the front hood bumpers, so that the top of the hood is flush with the fenders.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the bracket (2) to the radiator support.
  2. Install the bracket to the support bolts loosely.
  3. Install the primary hood latch (1) to the bracket.
  4. Install the hood latch release cable to the latch.
  5. Adjust the hood latch bracket left and right until the striker in the hood engages the primary latch.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Raise the hood.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket to the radiator support bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the hood latch height so that when the hood is closed, the hood is held securely against the front hood bumpers. Mark this height.
  10. Raise the hood.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket to the hood latch bolts (4) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement Secondary

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 277520  Size: SH
  1. Mark the position of the secondary hood latch (3) on the hood.
  2. Remove the secondary hood latch from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the spring (2) from the hood.
  4. Twist the spring from the reinforcement (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 277520  Size: SH
  1. Install the spring (2) to the hood.
  2. Twist the spring into the reinforcement (1).
  3. Install the secondary hood latch (3) to the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   5. Install the secondary hood latch to the hood bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the latch to the hood bolts (4) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
