    • J 38807 Extension Housing Bearing Installer
    • J 22834-A Extension Housing Seal Installer
  1. Clean the transmission housing in a suitable solvent. Air dry the housing.
  2. Remove the extension oil seal. Refer to Seal Replacement.
  3. Remove the extension housing bearing snap ring.
  4. Remove the bearing from the extension housing.
  5. Inspect the countershaft bearing race bore for the following conditions:
  6. • Wear
    • Scratches
    • Grooves
  7. Replace the housing if the countershaft bearing race bore is worn or damaged.
  8. Inspect the housing for the following conditions:
  9. • Cracks
    • Damaged threads
    • Nicked mounting surfaces
    • Burrs
    • Scratches
  10. Replace a cracked housing.
  11. Clean up damaged threads with the correct size tap.
  12. Replace the housing if scratches, grooves or scoring cannot be removed with a soft stone or a crocus cloth.
  13. Inspect the machined mating surfaces for flatness. Check the mating surfaces with a straight edge.
  14. Install the bearing into the extension housing using J 38807 .
  15. Install the extension housing bearing snap ring.
  16. Install the extension oil seal. Refer to Seal Replacement.
  17. Remove the oil seal from the extension housing:
  18. 15.1. Use a small prybar or the equivalent to pry out the seal.
    15.2. Inspect the retainer for damage.
  19. Install the new seal into the extension housing using J 22834-A .
