In-Line Fuel Filter Replacement a

Removal Procedure

Important: If the in-line filter is plugged, the fuel tank should be inspected internally and cleaned if necessary. Refer to Fuel System Cleaning .

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  4. Object Number: 420624  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the fuel pipes (1) at the fuel filter.
  6. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.

  2. Object Number: 420624  Size: SH
  3. Install the fuel filter in the bracket noting the direction of fuel flow arrow.
  4. Connect the fuel pipes (1) to the fuel filter.

    Tighten
    Tighten the fuel pipe fittings to 27N·m(20  lb ft).

  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  8. 5.1. Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds.
    5.2. Turn OFF the ignition switch for 10 seconds.
    5.3. Turn ON the ignition switch.
    5.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
