Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a container under the drain plug in order to catch the oil.
  3. Remove the fill plug.
  4. Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the drain plug.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the transfer case oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
  4. Fill the transfer case until the oil level is at the bottom of the oil fill plug hole.
  5. Install the fill plug.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
