Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the endgate. Refer to Endgate Replacement .
  2. Mark the position of the hinge on the endgate.

  3. Remove the hinge bolt (4).
  4. Remove the hinge from the endgate (5).
  5. 3.1. Drill a pilot hole in the center of the weld.
    3.2. Drill out the weld from the endgate side of the hinge with a 9.5 mm (0.375 in) drill bit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hinge to the endgate (5).
  2. Use the marks made during removal in order to position the endgate.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the hinge bolt (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hinge to endgate bolt to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Plug weld the hole that was drilled in the endgate.
  6. MIG weld the hinge to the endgate around the edge of the hinge.
  7. Paint the hinge.
  8. Lubricate the hinge.

  9. Install the endgate to the pickup box.
