Tools Required

1. Remove the nut securing the flat washer, rubber sealing washer, and yoke from the front output shaft.
2. Remove the speed sensor from the rear bearing retainer.
3. Remove the four wheel drive indicator switch from the front case half.
4. Remove the bolts securing the rear bearing retainer to the rear case half.
5. Split the tone wheel with a chisel to remove the tone wheel.



6. Using J 8059 , remove the rear output bearing snap ring.
7. Remove the case bolts from the case halves.
8. Remove the rear case half from the front case half.



9. Disconnect the clutch coil wire from the clutch coil.
10. Remove the three clutch coil nuts from the clutch coil.
11. Remove the clutch coil from the rear case.
12. Remove the O-ring from the clutch coil.
13. Remove the shift rail spring from the shift rail.



14. Using J 8059 , remove the clutch coil housing snap ring and the clutch coil housing from the mainshaft.
15. Remove the synchronizer shift collar hub from the synchronizer.



16. Remove the synchronizer from the mainshaft drive gear.
17. Remove the mode shift fork from the shift rail.



18. Remove the drive gear, the driven gear front sprocket, spacer, and drive chain from the front output shaft bearing.

Note the orientation of the master link prior to removal of the drive chain.




19. Remove the mainshaft and the oil pump from the input carrier.



20. Remove the shift rail from the input carrier.
21. Remove the range fork from the input carrier.
22. Remove the shift hub from the input carrier.



23. Remove the annulus gear snap ring from the front case.



24. Remove the annulus gear from the front case.
25. Remove the input shaft oil seal from the front case.



26. Remove the carrier snap ring from the carrier input shaft.



27. Remove the input carrier and the power take off drive gear from the front case.



28. Remove the retaining clip from the selector shaft.
29. Remove the selector shaft from the front case.
30. Remove the selector from the front case.
31. Remove the detent springfrom the front case.
32. Remove the detent roller from the front case:



33. Remove the front input bearing snap ring from the front case.



34. Using J 8092 and J 29169 , remove the front input bearing from the front case.
35. Using J 8092 and J 33832 , remove the rear output bearing from the rear case half.



36. Using J 2619-01 and J 29369 , remove the front output shaft rear bearing.
37. Remove the front output shaft seal from the front case.



38. Remove the front output bearing snap ring from the front case.



39. Use J 8092 and J 33832 , remove the front output bearing from the front case.
40. Remove the rear output shaft seal from the rear bearing retainer.



41. Remove the synchronizer hub snap ring from the synchronizer hub.
42. Remove the lockup hub compression spring from the lockup collar.
43. Remove the oil pump retainer bolts and the oil pump retainer from the oil pump rear cover.
44. Remove the oil pump body and the pickup tube assembly from the mainshaft.
45. Remove the oil pump pins and the oil pump spring from the mainshaft.
46. Remove the oil pump front cover from the mainshaft.
47. Remove the clamp from the pickup tube.
48. Remove the pickup tube and the oil pump pickup from the oil pump body.
49. Remove the oil pump pickup from the pickup tube.
