  1. Move the ignition switch to the start position.
  2. Use a J 39200 a digital multimeter (DMM) in order to measure the voltage between the terminals on the main battery.

Is the voltage reading greater than the specified value after 15 seconds?

9.6V

Use a J 39200 DMM in order to measure the voltage drop between the negative main battery terminal and the engine block while cranking engine.

Is the voltage reading less than the specified value?

0.5V

Use a J 39200 DMM in order to measure the voltage between the starter solenoid terminal B and CKT 1 (BLK) at the main battery.

Is the voltage reading more than the specified value?

9.0V

Go to Step 8

  1. Perform the battery load test. Refer to Battery Load Test .
  2. Replace the starter motor.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the negative battery cable.

  1. Clean and tighten the positive main battery terminals.
  2. Inspect the starter operation.
  3. Replace the positive main battery cable if the system still does not operate properly.
