Battery Cable Replacement 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L - Positive
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the positive
battery cable from the battery.
- Disconnect the positive
cable from the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC).
- Remove the battery cable junction block from the junction block bracket.
- Remove the negative cable from the retaining clip on the positive
cable.
- Remove the nut from the
back of the generator.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the generator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the bolts (4) securing
the positive cable to the engine.
- Remove the positive cable from the power steering accessory bracket
(4WD 15 series).
- Remove the nut from the
positive terminal of the starter.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the starter.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the retention clip.
- Remove the positive battery cable.
Installation Procedure
- Install the positive battery
cable to the retention clip.
- Install the positive battery cable to the starter.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nut
to the positive terminal of the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the bolts (4)
securing the positive cable to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in)
- Install the positive cable to the power steering accessory bracket.
(4WD 15 series)
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the positive battery cable to the generator.
- Install the nut to the back of the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb ft)
- Install the battery cable junction block to the junction block bracket.
- Install the negative cable to the retaining clip on the positive
cable.
- Connect the positive battery
cable to the UBEC.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Connect the positive battery
cable to the battery.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
Battery Cable Replacement 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L - Negative
Removal Procedure

the negative battery cable (1).
- Remove the negative cable from the retaining clip on the positive
cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the bolt (5) anchoring the negative battery cable to the
block.
- Remove the bolt (2) anchoring the negative battery cable to the
frame.
- Remove the negative battery cable.
Installation Procedure
- Install the negative battery
cable (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the bolt (2) anchoring the negative battery cable to the
frame.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the negative cable to the retaining clip on the positive
cable.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

positive terminal of the starter.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the starter.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the retention clip.
- Remove the positive/negative battery cable.

battery cable.
- Install the positive battery cable to the retention clip.
- Install the positive battery cable to the starter.
