Removal Procedure

  1. Rase the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 165441  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fill plug.
  4. Place a container under the drain plug in order to catch the oil.
  5. Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 165441  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • Ensure the drain plug is made of aluminum. A steel drain plug will cause accelerated corrosion that will destroy the magnesium case.
       • Do not use an impact tool to install the drain plug.

  1. Install the drain plug.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the drain plug to 47 N·m (35 lb ft.)

  3. Fill the transfer case with oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities
  4. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the oil fill plug hole.
  5. Important: 

       • Ensure the fill plug is made of aluminum. A steel fill plug will cause accelerated corrosion that will destroy the magnesium case.
       • Do not use an impact tool to install the fill plug.

  6. Install the oil fill plug.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill plug to 47 N·m (35 lb ft.)

  8. Lower the vehicle.
