Inspect the brake linings every 9,650 km (3,000 mi)
or any time you remove the wheels. Tire rotation is an example of wheel removal.
- Inspect both ends of the outer lining by looking in at each end
of the caliper. The ends are the points where the highest rate of wear normally
occurs.
- Check the thickness of the inner lining in order to ensure the
lining has not worn prematurely. Look down through the inspection hole
in the top of the caliper in order to view the inner lining.
- Replace the shoe and the lining assemblies whenever the thickness
of any lining wears to within 0.1.5 mm (.060 in) of the shoe.
Always replace the disc brake shoe and the lining assemblies as complete
sets.
- Inspect the flatness of the linings. Place the inboard and the
outboard lining surfaces together. Inspect for a gap between the surfaces.
Any gap should not exceed 0.30 mm (.012 in) at the center
of the lining surfaces. This applies to both the new and the used shoe
and lining assemblies.
The lining assemblies have a wear indicator that makes noise when the
linings are worn (2) and need replacement.
