Backing Plate Replacement 15 Series

1. Release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
5. Relieve the tension from the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.
6. Remove the park brake cable from the lever.
7. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
8. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
9. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
10. Remove the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .



11. Remove the backing plate bolts.
12. Remove the backing plate from axle housing flange.

1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




2. Install the backing plate bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the backing plate bolts to 95 N·m (71 lb ft).

3. Install the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
4. Adjust the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .
5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
6. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
7. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
8. Install the park brake cable to the lever.
9. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

10. Install the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
12. Remove the safety stands.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Backing Plate Replacement 25 Series

1. Release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
5. Relieve the tension from the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.
6. Remove the park brake cable from the lever.
7. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
8. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
9. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
10. Remove the rear hub assembly. Refer to Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
11. Remove the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .



12. Remove the backing plate nuts.
13. Remove the backing plate from axle housing flange.

1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




2. Install the backing plate nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N·m (101 lb ft).

3. Install the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
4. Adjust the parking brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .
5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
6. Install the rear hub assembly. Refer to Rear Axle Hub, Bearing, Cup, and/or Seal Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
7. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
8. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
9. Install the park brake cable to the lever.
10. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

11. Install the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
13. Remove the safety stands.
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .
