Was the instrument panel cluster (IPC) system check performed?

  1. Turn the Ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. With the scan tool select Powertrain, Data Display, Engine Data Display, Engine Data 2, and monitor the PRNDL Position.
  3. Move the gear selector through the range of gears while monitoring the PRNDL state on the scan tool.

Does the scan tool display the specified value?

INVALID

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check for 4.3L

or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check for 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L

Go to Step 3

  1. Place the shift lever in the PARK position.
  2. With a scan tool, select Instrument Panel Cluster, Data Display, and Inputs.

Monitor the Park Switch.

Does the Park Switch display the specified value?

CLOSED

Go to Step 4

Go to PRNDL Display Park Indicator Inoperative

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?
