Automatic Day-Night Mirrors System Check Mirror-Compass

  1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  2. Read the compass display.

Mirror display compass.

Mirror display is blank .

Refer to Automatic Day-Night Mirrors Inoperative .

  1. Position the vehicle outside away from buildings, antenna towers, etc.
  2. Exit the vehicle and with a known good compass, take a reading in which the vehicle is headed.
  3. Note the compass reading in mirror display.

Mirror display shows same heading as a known good compass

Mirror display is blank or reads an entirely different heading then known good compass.

Refer to Mirror Compass Display Inoperative or Inaccurate .

  1. Place the gear selector in park.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the on position.
  3. Cover ambient light sensor (windsheild side) with a dark cloth.
  4. Shine a light at the headlamp sensor (mirror side).

Mirror gradually darkens.

Place the gear selector in reverse.

Mirror gradually lightens to clear state.

Place the gear selector in park.

Mirror gradually darkens.

Remove the light and the cloth.

Mirror gradually lightens to clear state.
