A permanent magnet motor operates each of the power side windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when the motor receives voltage. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage. The side window switches control the polarity of the supply voltage. The left front door lock and side window switch controls both the motors. The other window switches control only the window regulator motor in that particular door. A built-in circuit breaker protects each motor. The circuit breaker opens when the switch is depressed for a extended period of time under the following conditions:
• | The window has an obstruction. |
• | The window is fully open or fully closed. |
The circuit breaker will resets automatically as it cools.
With the ignition switch in run, current is supplied first to the retained accessory power (RAP) relay and on to the PWR SDO circuit breaker located in the left bussed electrical center (LBEC). The current continues through CKT 1011 (DK GRN) through the up/down contacts of the switch to the left power window motor through CKT 164 (DK BLU). Ground is provided using the direct opposite switch contacts of the selected position through CKT 1850 (BLK) G203.
The left power window/door lock switch also controls the ground path from the up or down relays on CKT 166 (LT BLU) and CKT 167 (TAN) respectfully (located in the right power window/door lock switch) in order to operate the right power window.
Both the right and the left power windows/door lock switches are replaced as a complete assembly. This includes all switches and relays that may be diagnosed as a faulty. The left window express feature will be diagnosed in the left window inoperative symptom table.
The right power window/door lock switch receives power the same as the left power window switch. This switch incorporates an up and down relay which is always powered with the ignition switch in ACCY, RUN or when the retained accessory power (RAP) is active. When this switch is activated in the up or down position, the ground path is completed for the appropriate relay thus operating the window motor is its selected direction. CKT 2450 (BLK) provides the ground path for both relays to G200.
