Parking Brake Cable Replacement Left Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer

  5. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable at the equalizer.

  7. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  8. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs (standard cab).

  9. Object Number: 390058  Size: SH
  10. Remove the cable from the body mount by depressing the locking tabs (extended cab).
  11. Remove the cable at the shock absorber bracket by removing the bolt.
  12. Remove the cable from the lever.
  13. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  14. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place.
  3. Install the cable to the lever.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the cable at the shock absorber bracket and install the bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft)

  7. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place (standard cab).

  8. Object Number: 390058  Size: SH
  9. Install the cable to the body mount until the locking tabs snap into place (extended cab).

  10. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  11. Connect cable end to the equalizer.

  12. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  13. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  15. Remove the safety stands.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Right Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension on the cable by loosening the nut at the equalizer.

  5. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer.

  7. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH
  8. Remove the bolt from the differential cable bracket.
  9. Remove the cable from the rear axle clip.

  10. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs (standard cab).

  12. Object Number: 390058  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cable from the body mount by depressing the locking tabs (extended cab).
  14. Remove the cable from the lever.
  15. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  16. Remove the cable from the retaining bracket.
  17. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place.
  3. Attach the cable to the lever.

  7. Install the cable to the body mount until the locking tabs snap into place (extended cab).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Bolt the cable to the differential (clips).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft)

    Important: After installing the cable to the rear axle holding clip, verify that clip is securely retaining the cable. If not, crimp the clip by hand taking care not to pinch or kink the cable.

  11. Install the cable to the rear axle clip.

  13. Connect the cable to the equalizer.

  14. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  15. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  17. Remove the safety stands.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake
  2. Remove the park brake lever. Refer to Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 376010  Size: SH
  4. Roll the carpet back to access cable grommet.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Object Number: 363830  Size: SH
  7. Disengage the grommet and the cable from the floor pan.
  8. Disconnect the front cable from the intermediate cable.
  9. Remove the cable from the body mount by depressing the retaining tabs.
  10. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 363830  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable.
  2. Snap the retainer tabs into the body mount.
  3. Connect the front cable to the intermediate cable.
  4. Route the cable in through the floor pan and engage the grommet.
  5. Remove the safety stands.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 376010  Size: SH
  8. Roll the carpet into place.
  9. Install the park brake lever. Refer to Park Brake Lever Assembly Replacement .
  10. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Intermediate

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nut from the threaded end of the intermediate cable.

  5. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the equalizer from the rear park brake cables.

  7. Object Number: 363830  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the intermediate cable from the front cable.

  9. Object Number: 372317  Size: SH
  10. Remove the intermediate cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the intermediate cable.

  2. Object Number: 363830  Size: SH
  3. Connect the intermediate cable to the front cable.

  4. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  5. Connect the equalizer to the rear park brake cables.

  6. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH

  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  9. Remove the safety stands.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .
