Power Steering Pump Replacement 4.3L
Removal Procedure
Tools Required

- Remove the upper radiator
fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 4.3L or
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical --
4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L.
- Remove the pulley.
• | Be sure the pilot bolt bottoms in the pump shaft by turning the
nut to the top of the pilot bolt. |
• | Turn the nut counterclockwise. |
- Place a drain pan under
the pump.
- Remove the hoses from the pump.
- Remove the bolts from the rear of the pump.
- Remove the bolts from the front of the pump.
- Remove the pump from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the pump.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts
to the front and to the rear of the pump.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the hoses to the pump.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the pulley.
• | Place the pulley on the end of the pump shaft. |
• | Be sure the pilot bottoms in the pump shaft by turning the nut
to the top of the pilot bolt. |
• | Turn the nut clockwise. |
• | Install the pulley with 0.5 mm (0.020 in) play. |
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 4.3L or
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical --
4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L.
- Install the upper radiator shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.

- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
