Condition/Concern:

Certain 1999 - 2001 C/K 1500 and 2500 vehicle owners may not be able to lower the spare tire on their vehicle in the event that they experience a flat tire. A problem may exist where the "Solid" spare tire tool is not able to be inserted through the tube between the rear bumper and the spare tire hoist mechanism and engage the hoist correctly. Involved are all 1999, 2000 and certain 2001 model GMT800 (1500 and 2500 Series) Pickup Trucks. For 2001, vehicles from Start of Production through 1E171021 for Pontiac East, 1Z165622 for Fort Wayne and 11191153 for Oshawa are involved.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This message is to inform dealers that customers of the above listed vehicles were sent a letter advising them of a tool that was available at no charge to assist with removing the spare tire if the customer was unable to lower the spare tire using the jack handle extensions supplied with the vehicle. The customer could return a post card or call an 800 number to receive their free tool. This program officially ended on December 31, 2003. These new flexible spare tire hoist tools can now be obtained through GMSPO using P/N 15095519. Please advise the customer that the tool can be purchased at a cost to them from their local dealer.
