The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
When installing a new engine or crankshaft in the following combinations, a crankshaft to flexplate spacer may be needed to due to part supersessions to ensure proper clearance between the block and flexplate.
| • | If a 89017356 6.0L engine is installed in a 99 - 04 VIN U equipped vehicle |
| • | If a 12569768 6.0L crankshaft is installed in a 99 - 04 VIN U engine |
| • | If a 12561302 6.0L crankshaft is installed in a 99 - 00 VIN U engine |
| • | If a 12559656 4.8L crankshaft is installed in a 99 - 00 VIN V engine. |
Recommendation/Instructions:
If this condition is encountered, install a spacer between the crankshaft and flexplate with 6 new bolts. The part number of the spacer is 12563532 and part number of the flexplate to crankshaft bolts is 12563533.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
