Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Column Shift
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

- Remove the shift lever. Refer to
Shift Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
- The steering column lock cylinder set should be in the OFF-LOCK
position.
- Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly
and push against the locking tab to remove.
- Disconnect the automatic
transmission shift lock control connector from the park position switch assembly.
- Slide the park position switch assembly off of the linear shift
assembly.
Notice: Do not use excessive force when removing the automatic transmission
shift lock control from the steering column. Using excessive force may cause
damage to the automatic transmission shift lock control and/or the steering
column.
- Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control from
the steering column.
- Use a small screwdriver to pry the automatic transmission shift
lock control from the steering column jacket assembly.
- Remove the 3 TORX®
screws from the linear shift assembly.
- Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column support
assembly.
