Auxiliary Battery Positive Cable Replacement 6.6L Engine

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Loosen the auxiliary battery positive cable bolt.
  3. Remove the auxiliary battery cable clip from the wheelhouse inner panel.
  4. Remove the auxiliary battery cable clip from the frame.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Remove the starter lead nut.
  8. Remove the auxiliary positive battery cable from the starter solenoid stud.

  10. Remove the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt.

  12. Remove the battery cable retainer nut.
  13. Remove the auxiliary positive cable from the retainer.
  14. Remove the auxiliary battery cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the auxiliary battery cable to the starter.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the starter lead nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the auxiliary battery cable to the retainer.
  6. Install the retainer and nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  8. Install the auxiliary battery negative cable bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  10. Install the auxiliary battery positive cable.
  11. Tighten the auxiliary battery positive cable.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  13. Connect the auxiliary battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
