Subject: | Cylinder Number 2 or 4 Piston Damage from Crossed Injector Leads |
Models: | 2004-2005 Chevrolet Silverado |
2004-2005 GMC Sierra |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
The 2004-2005 6.6 LLY Duramax engines have injector connectors that can be easily swapped between cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 (left bank) during a repair. If the injector connectors are swapped, both pistons will be quickly damaged due to incorrect fuel injection timing.
During any repairs that require injector connector unplugging, care should be taken to reinstall the connectors to the correct injectors.
If a vehicle is found with piston damage on both cylinders 2 and 4, inspect the injector connectors to determine if incorrect installation was the cause of failure.
Install injector connectors correctly, and complete the current SI repair procedures.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
