The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The hybrid control module (HCM) is the gateway between the CAN controllers and the class 2 network controllers. Any related CAN controller messages that need to be displayed for the customer in the Display Information Center (DIC) are sent by the HCM to the DIC via the class 2 network. Under some conditions during the key crank to engine run mode the HCM will send a class 2 message during a class 2 "busy" time. The message gets ignored and therefore never displayed in the DIC. The following messages have the potential to be ignored:

    • Hood Ajar
    • Service 42volt Batteries
    • 42v Switch Off
    • 120v Power Ready
    • Service Steering System
    • Service Brake System
    • 120v Disable
    • Engine AutoStart Mode

Also in some cases DTCs for the ESCM (Energy Storage Box Module) related to battery diagnostics may not be set when a concern occurs.

New calibrations have been released to correct these issues.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Reprogram the following three modules HCM, ESCM and PCM with updated software calibrations. This new software calibrations was released with TIS satellite data update version 4.0 available April 3, 2006. As always, make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
