Subject:Start/Stall or Poor Driveability After Restart, Loss of Gasoline or CNG Hours/Miles Data with Bi-Fuel Vehicle (Reprogram PCM)

Models:2003 Chevrolet Express, Silverado
2003 GMC Savana, Sierra
with KL6 or KL8 Bi-Fuel System

Condition

Some customers may comment on the vehicle stalling when starting, having poor driveability or a loss of gasoline or CNG Hours/Miles information. In extreme cases, the customer may try several times to restart the vehicle before it results in a walk home condition.

Cause

PCM non-volatile memory may be reset. This typically occurs after running out of CNG, switching to gasoline then shutting down.

Correction

Reprogram the PCM with calibration operating system part number 52372987 or later.

The new calibrations will be released beginning with TIS satellite data update version 4.0 for 2004, which includes TECH2® update version 24.001, available April 2004. As always, make sure your TECH2® is updated with the latest software version.
