SMU-SECTION 6B - BELT TENSIONS REPLACE

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE-SECTION 6B- BELT TENSIONS - REPLACE STEP 2 OF INSTALLATION

MODELS: 1997 GMC B TRUCK W/ L65 MODELS

THIS BULLETIN REPLACE STEP 2 OF INSTALLATION OF "FAN DRIVE BELT (6.5L) DIESEL ENGINE" OF PAGE 6B-36 OF THE 1997 MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK C-SERIES AND B7 CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL WITH THE FOLLOWING:

2. TIGHTEN THE ADJUSTER BOLT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING TENSION IS ACHIEVED:

* NEW BELT - 230 LBS +/- 10 LBS (312 +/- 13.5 NM) BEFORE INITIAL ROTATIONS OF PULLEYS. * USED BELT - 220 LBS +/- 10 LBS (298 +/- 13.5 NM) BEFORE INITIAL ROTATIONS OF PULLEYS. * MINIMUM BELT TENSION OF 180 LBS (244 NM) AFTER ROTATION OF PULLEYS.

DEFINITION OF USED BELT: NEW BELT THAT HAS BEEN TENSIONED ONE TIME AND HAS BEEN ROTATED ONE REVOLUTION. RESET TENSION TO 220 LBS (298 NM) IF TENSION IS LESS THAN 100 LBS (135 NM).
