THE PARTS KIT #15559733 FOR HYDRAULIC BRAKE EQUIPPED VEHICLES IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.
OWNERS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE EQUIPPED VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE CAMPAIGN RELEASE AND THEIR INVOLVEMENT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE OWNER WILL BE INFORMED THAT PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE AUGUST 31, 1986. UNTIL THESE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, GMC TRUCK IS PROVIDING A SERVICE INSPECTION PROCEDURE TO BE PERFORMED ON A NO CHARGE BASIS ON THE SUBJECT HYDRAULIC BRAKE EQUIPPED TRUCKS BROUGHT INTO GMC TRUCK DEALERSHIPS. THE LETTER TO INVOLVED OWNERS RECOMMENDS THE OWNER, THE OWNER'S MECHANIC, OR A GMC TRUCK DEALER INSPECT THE STEERING ARM TO DETERMINE IF CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED. IF CRACKS ARE DISCOVERED, THE STEERING ARM MUST BE REPLACED.
IF A VEHICLE IS USED IN AN OFF ROAD SEVERE HEAVY DUTY APPLICATION, IT IS RECOMMENDED THE STEERING CONTROL ARM BE INSPECTED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. IF A VEHICLE IS USED PRIMARILY ON ROAD AND NOT IN A SEVERE APPLICATION, INSPECTION OF THE STEERING CONTROL ARM SHOULD BE MADE AT 2,000 MILE INTERVALS OR AT LEAST MONTHLY.

FIGURE #1 SHOWS THE LOCATION OF THE STEERING CONTROL ARM ON THE COLEMAN FRONT AXLE. IT IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF AND ON TOP OF THE AXLE BOLTED TOTHE BRAKE BACKING PLATE.
FIGURE #2 IS A PICTURE OF THE STEERING CONTROL ARM. THE ARROWS INDICATE THE POINT AT WHICH CRACKS CAN DEVELOP. CLEAN THE CONTROL ARM WITH A WIRE BRUSH AND SUITABLE SOLVENT. INSPECT THE AREAS INDICATED FOR CRACKS. IF CRACKS ARE EVIDENT, THE STEERING CONTROL ARM MUST BE REPLACED.

STEERING ARM REMOVAL
REMOVE THE COTTER PIN FROM THE DRAG LINK BALL STUD AT THE STEERING ARM, AND REMOVE THE BALL STUD NUT.
INSTALL PULLER J-26813-B AND REMOVE DRAG LINK BALL STUD. REMOVE THE FOUR BOLTS WHICH ATTACH THE LEFT HAND STEERING ARM TO THE BACKING PLATE.
REMOVE AND DISCARD THE STEERING ARM.
INSTALLATION
ATTACH THE NEW STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE PACKING PLATE USING THE EXISTING HARDWARE. TORQUE THE FOUR BOLTS 95-105 LBS. FT. (130-140 N.M)
SEAT THE DRAG LINK BALL STUD TO THE NEW STEERING ARM.
INSTALL THE BALL STUD NUT AND TORQUE 125-150 LBS. FT. (170-205 N.M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN, PART NUMBER 11076431. NEVER BACK THE NUT OFF TO INSTALL THE COTTER PIN.

IN SOME INSTANCES OF HEAVY STEERING INPUT, STEERING ARMS CAN BE OVER STRESSED RESULTING IN CRACKS AND EVENTUAL COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE STEERING CONTROL ARM. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THERE WILL BE A COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND A VEHICLE CRASH CAN OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

O REMOVE THE FOUR BOLTS WHICH ATTACH THE STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. DISCARD THE ARM, BOLTS, AND NUTS. THE HELICAL WASHERS WILL BE REUSED.
O USE A COARSE GRINDING DISK TO REMOVE 1/8"-1/4" OF THE METAL FROM THE TOP OF THE AXLE AT THE SPINDLE ATTACHING POINT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE FOR THE STTERING ARM.
O CLEAN THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE OF ALL ROAD DIRT AT THE STEERING ARM ATTACHING POINT USING A WIRE BRUSH.
O INSTALL THE NEW STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE USING NEW NUTS AND BOLTS. USE THE EXISTING WASHERS ON THE UPPER TWO BOLTS. TORQUE BOLTS 95-105 FT-LBS (170-205 N-M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O DISCONNECT THE TWO POWER CYLINDER LINES AT THE STEERING GEAR.
O REMOVE THE COTTER PIN AND NUT FROM THE POWER CYLINDER PISTON BALL STUD AT THE PITMAN ARM. INSTALL PULLER J-26813-B AND REMOVE THE STUD FROM THE PITMAN ARM.
O REMOVE THE COTTER PIN FROM THE POWER CYLINDER END PLUG AT THE FRAME BRACKET. USING WRENCH J-26824, BACK OUT THE ADJUSTER SCREW UNTIL THE CYLINDER CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE MOUNTING BRACKET BALL. REMOVE THE POWER CYLINDER FROM THE VEHICLE. DISCARD POWER CYLINDER AND SOCKET ASSEMBLY.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE NEW POWER CYLINDER SOCKET.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE NEW POWER CYLINDER.
O FULLY THREAD THE SOCKET ASSEMBLY TO THE POWER CYLINDER. TIGHTEN THE CLAMP BOLT TO 55 FT-LBS (75 N-M).
O POSITION THE DUST COVER OVER THE END OF THE POWER CYLINDER MOUNTING BRACKET.
O POSITION THE POWER CYLINDER ON THE FRAME MOUNTING BRACKET. CONNECT THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET TO THE PITMAN ARM. SEAT THE BALL STUD TAPER AND INSTALL BALL STUD NUT. TIGHTEN TO 150 FT-LBS (205 N-M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O USING WRENCH J-26824, TIGHTEN THE END PLUG OF THE POWER CYLINDER TO 25 FT-LBS (35 N-M), THEN BACK OFF TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O INSERT THE DUST COVER TANGS THROUGH THE COVER HOLES AND BEND TO SECURE.
O INSTALL THE POWER CYLINDER LINES TO THE STEERING GEAR ILLUSTRATED IN SHEET 3. NOTE THAT THE LINES WILL CROSS EACH OTHER.
O LUBE THE FOUR GREASE FITTINGS, TWO ON THE DRAG LINK, ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER AND ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET USING GREASE PART NUMBER 1052182 OR EQUIVALENT.
O ADD POWER STEERING FLUID PART NUMBER 1050017 OR EQUIVALENT TO THE REMOTE RESERVOIR AND BLEED THE STEERING SYSTEM.
DO NOT TOUCH THE INNER EDGE OF SPOKES OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TESTING. IF POWER STEERING LINES HAVE BEEN CROSSED IN ERROR, THE STEERING WHEEL MAY SPIN VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH WHEN IT IS TURNED CAUSING INJURY TO HANDS CONTACTING THE SPINNING SPOKES.

O SET THE PARKING BRAKE.
O DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
O TURN THE FRONT WHEELS ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT.
O REMOVE THE FOUR BOLTS WHICH ATTCH THE STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. SEPARATE THE PITMAN ARM FROM THE STEERING GEAR. DISCARD THE STEERING ARM, DRAG LINK, PITMAN ARM, BOLTS AND NUTS. THE HELICAL WASHERS WILL BE REUSED.
O REMOVE THE RUBBER NOISE SHIELD FROM THE FRAME RAIL IF VEHICLE EQUIPPED.
O DISCONNECT THE AIR BRAKE LINE FROM THE FRAME RAIL IF VEHICLE EQUIPPED.
O DISCONNECT THE AIR BRAKE LINE AT THE FRAME RAIL FITTING AND FROM THE PLASTIC HOSE WHICH CONNECTS TO THE APPLICATION VALVE. CUT THE LINE TO REMOVE IT FROM THE BRACKET.
O DISCONNECT THE STEERING SHAFT FROM THE STEERING GEAR.
O DISCONNECT AND DISCARD ALL HYDRAULIC LINES FROM THE STEERING GEAR AND HYDRAULIC PUMP.
O REMOVE THE STEERING GEAR AND ITS ADAPTOR FROM THE VEHICLE. DISCARD THE GEAR, ADAPTER BRACKET AND ITS ATTACHING HARDWARE.
O USE A COARSE GRINDING DISK TO REMOVE 1/8"-1/4" OF METAL FROM THE TOP OF THE AXLE AT THE SPINDLE ATTACHING POINT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE FOR THE STEERING ARM.
O REMOVE THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP, HIGH PRESSURE SIDE. DISCARD THE VALVE AND FITTING, SHEET 4. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE PUMP FROM THE VEHICLE.
O INSTALL AN 'O' RING ON THE POWER STEERING OUTLET FITTING, SHEET 4 VIEW C.
O INSTALL THE NEW PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE AND FITTING IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP. TORQUE FITTING 25-50 FT-LBS (35-70 N-M).
O REMOVE STEERING WHEEL USING PULLER J-1859-03.
O REMOVE THE STEERING SHAFT RETAINER CLIP.
O REMOVE AND DISCARD THE STEERING SHAFT AND THE RETAINER CLIP. TRANSFER THE LOWER SEAL, SPRING, AND SPRING SEAT TO THE NEW SHAFT, SHEET 3.
O INSTALL THE COUPLING CLAMP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE NEW STEERING SHAFT. TIGHTEN BOLT JUST ENOUGH TO RETAIN ON THE SHAFT.
O INSTALL NEW STEERING SHAFT AND RETAINER CLIP.
O INSTALL NEW STEERING GEAR TO THE FRAME RAIL. TORQUE THE THREE BOLTS TO 120 FT-LBS (165 N-M). CONNECT THE STEERING SHAFT TO THE GEAR. TORQUE CLAMP BOLT 25-30 FT-LBS (35-40 N-M).
O TURN THE BRAKE AIR LINE ELBOW AT THE FRAME RAIL 270 DEGREES. IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE REMOVE THE FITTING, RESEAL USING LOCTITE PIPE SEALANT, PN 1052080 OR EQUIVALENT, AND INSTALL AS SHOWN ON SHEET 6. PLACE THE AIR LINE THROUGH THE BRACKET ATTACHED TO THE FRAME RAIL. INSTALL A SLEEVE AND NUT ON BOTH ENDS OF THE LINE THEN ATTACH IT AT BOTH ENDS.
O INSTALL NEW PITMAN ARM TO THE STEERING GEAR. USE NEW PINCH BOLT, NUT AND WASHER. TORQUE THE NUT TO 100 FT-LBS (135 N-M).
O REMOVE THE BOLTS SECURING THE NOISE SHIELD BRACKET AT THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET MOUNTING LOCATION, SHEET 7, IF VEHICLE EQUIPPED.
O CLEAN THE FRAME RAIL AT THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET ATTACHING POINT OF ALL ROAD DIRT.
O INSTALL THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET TO THE FRAME RAIL UTILIZING THE EXISTING HOLES IN THE FRAME, SHEET 7. REATTACH NOISE SHIELD BRACKET IF PREVIOUSLY REMOVED. SECURE WITH THREE BOLTS. TORQUE BOLTS 50-60 FT-LBS (70-85 N.M).
O CLEAN BRAKE BACKING PLATE OF ALL ROAD DIRT AT THE STEERING ARM ATTACHING POINT USING A WIRE BRUSH.
O INSTALL THE NEW STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. USE NEW BOLTS AND NUTS. USE EXISTING HELICAL WASHERS ON THE UPPER TWO BOLTS TORQUE BOLTS 95-105 FT-LBS (130-140 N-M).
O INSTALL GREASE FITTINGS (2) TO THE DRAG LINK. SEAT THE DRAG LINK BALL STUDS TO THE PITMAN ARM AND STEERING ARM. TORQUE THE NUTS 125-150 FT-LBS (170-205 N-M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O INSTALL THE SHORT TUBE TO THE STEERING GEAR OUTLET PORT. INSTALL THE RUBBER HOSE TO THE TUBE AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID COOLER LINE. SECURE WITH HOSE CLAMPS AND TY-WRAP TO OTHER COOLER HOSE, SHEET 5.
O INSTALL CONDUIT ON THE HOSE PORTION OF THE HIGH PRESSURE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY. ATTACH THE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND TO THE STEERING GEAR. SECURE TO THE FRAME RAIL AND PUMP BRACKETS, SHEET 4.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE POWER CYLINDER.
O FULLY THREAD THE SOCKET ASSEMBLY TO THE POWER CYLINDER. TIGHTEN THE CLAMP BOLT TO 55 FT-LBS (75 N-M).
O POSITION THE DUST COVER OVER THE END OF THE MOUNTING BRACKET.
O POSITION THE POWER CYLINDER ON THE FRAME MOUNTING BRACKET. CONNECT THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET TO THE PITMAN ARM. SEAT THE BALL STUD TAPER AND INSTALL BALL STUD NUT. TIGHTEN TO 150 FT-LBS (205 N.M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O USING WRENCH J-26824, TIGHTEN THE END PLUG OF THE POWER CYLINDER TO 25 FT-LBS (35 N-M), THEN BACK OFF TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN.
O INSERT THE DUST COVER TANGS THROUGH THE COVER HOLE AND BEND TO SECURE.

O LUBE THE FOUR GREASE FITTINGS, TWO ON THE DRAG LINK, ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER AND ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET USING GREASE PART NUMBER 1052182 OR EQUIVALENT.
O CONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
O ADD POWER STEERING FLUID PART NUMBER 1050017 OR EQUIVALENT TO THE REMOTE RESERVOIR. BLEED THE STEERING SYSTEM.
DO NOT TOUCH THE INNER EDGE OF SPOKES OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TESTING. IF POWER STEERING LINES HAVE BEEN CROSSED IN ERROR, THE STEERING WHEEL MAY SPIN VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH WHEN IT IS TURNED, CAUSING INJURY TO HANDS CONTACTING THE SPINNING SPOKES.
O CHECK NEW BRAKE AIR LINE FOR LEAKS USING SOAP SUDS. MAKE SEVERAL BRAKE APPLICATIONS TO ENSURE THAT LEAKS DO NOT EXIST IN THE LINE OR FITTINGS WITH FULL SYSTEM AIR PRESSURE, 120 PSI.

EXTREME CARE MUST BE USED WHEN ADDING FLUIDS TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM. NOTE CAREFULLY THE IDENTIFICATION AND LABELS ON CONTAINERS FOR PROPER FLUID TO BE USED IN THE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER AND HYDRAULIC PUMP AND THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. DO NOT MIX MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR AND HYDRAULIC PUMP SYSTEM FLUIDS. DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE OR HYDRAULIC BOOSTER AND SYSTEM COMPONENTS WILL CAUSE DEGRADATION OF THE BRAKE SYTEMS.
O REFER TO THE MEDIUM DUTY SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 3 AND 5 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
O SET THE PARKING BRAKE
O DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
O TURN THE FRONT WHEELS ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT.
O REMOVE THE FOUR BOLTS WHICH ATTACH THE STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. SEPARATE THE PITMAN ARM FROM THE STEERING GEAR. DISCARD THE STEERING ARM, DRAG LINK, PITMAN ARM, BOLTS AND NUTS. THE HELICAL WASHERS WILL BE REUSED.
O REMOVE THE RUBBER NOISE SHIELD FROM THE FRAME RAIL IF VEHICLE EQUIPPED, SHEET 7.
O DISCONNECT THE STEERING SHAFT FROM THE STEERING GEAR.
O DISCONNECT ALL HYDRAULIC LINES FROM THE STEERING GEAR.
O REMOVE THE STEERING GEAR AND ITS ADAPTER BRACKET FROM THE VEHICLE. DISCARD THE GEAR, ADAPTER BRACKET AND ITS ATTACHING HARDWARE.
O DISCONNECT THE HYDRAULIC LINES FROM THE POWER STEERING/BRAKE PUMP.
O REMOVE THE REMOTE RESERVOIR AND HOSE FROM THE RADIATOR SHEEL AND DISCARD. SAVE THE MOUNTING BRACKET, ATTACHING HARDWARE AND CAP.
O REMOVE THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE HOLDDOWN CLAMP FROM THE FRAME RAIL, SHEET 4. MOVE THE ALTERNATOR BELTS SO THAT THE STEERING/BRAKE PUMP AND BELT MAY BE REMOVED. DISCARD HYDRAULIC LINES AND BELT.
O REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL USING PULLER J-1859-03.
O REMOVE THE STEERING SHAFT RETAINER CLIP FROM ITS GROOVE BUT DO NOT REMOVE IT FROM THE SHAFT. PULL THE STEERING SHAFT FROM THE COLUMN.
O DISCARD THE STEERING SHAFT AND THE RETAINER CLIP. TRANSFER THE LOWER SEAL, SPRING, AND SPRING SEAT TO THE NEW SHAFT, SHEET 3.
O INSTALL THE COUPLING CLAMP WITHOUT ITS BOLT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE NEW STEERING SHAFT.
O INSTALL NEW STEERING SHAFT AND RETAINER CLIP.
O INSTALL NEW STEERING GEAR TO THE FRAME RAIL. TORQUE THE THREE BOLTS TO 120 FT-LBS (165 N-M). CONNECT THE STEERING SHAFT TO THE GEAR SHEET 1. TORQUE CLAMP BOLT 25-30 FT-LBS (35-40 N-M), SHEET 3.
O INSTALL NEW PITMAN ARM TO THE STEERING GEAR. USE NEW PINCH BOLT, NUT AND WASHER. TORQUE THE NUT TO 100 FT-LBS (135 N-M), SHEET 2.
O UNBOLT THE BRAKE LINES AND NOISE SHIELD MOUNTING BRACKET FROM THE FRAME RAIL AT THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET ATTACHING POINT, SHEET 7.
O CLEAN THE FRAME RAIL AT THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET ATTACHING POINT OF ALL ROAD DIRT.
O INSTALL THE POWER CYLINDER BRACKET TO THE FRAME RAIL UTILIZING THE EXISTING HOLES IN THE FRAME, SHEET 7. REATTACH NOISE SHIELD BRACKET IF PREVIOUSLY REMOVED AND BRAKE LINE HOLDDOWN CLAMP. TORQUE BOLTS 50-60 FT-LBS (70-85 N-M).
O INSTALL CONDUIT ON THE HOSE PORTION OF THE HIGH PRESSURE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY. ATTACH THE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY TO THE STEERING GEAR. SECURE TO THE FRAME RAIL BRACKET, SHEET 4.
O REMOVE THE PULLEY, AND FRONT AND REAR BRACKET FROM THE OLD HYDRAULIC STEERING/BRAKE PUMP. INSTALL BRACKETS AND PULLEY ON THE NEW PUMP, SHEET 13. TORQUE FRONT BRACKET BOLTS 25-30 FT-LBS (34-40 N-M). TORQUE PULLEY NUT 25-30 FT-LBS (34-40 N-M).
O INSTALL HYDRAULIC PUMP TO THE ENGINE, SHEET 13. INSTALL HIGH PRESSURE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY TO THE PUMP AND TO THE PUMP BRACKET, SHEET 4.
O REINSTALL NOISE SHIELD TO FRAME RAIL.
O ADJUST BELT TENSION ON HYDRAULIC STEERING PUMP AND ALTERNATOR BELTS TO 90-100 LBS (400-445 N). USE BELT TENSION GAGE J-23600-B WHEN CHECKING BELT TENSION.
O GRIND TOP OF AXLE STUB TO AXLE HOUSING FLANGE 1/8"-1/4" FOR EXTRA STEERING ARM CLEARANCE.
O CLEAN BRAKE BACKING PLATE OF ALL ROAD DIRT AT THE STEERING ARM ATTACHING POINT USING A WIRE BRUSH.
O INSTALL THE NEW STEERING ARM TO THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. USE NEW BOLTS AND NUTS. USE EXISTING HELICAL WASHERS ON THE UPPER TWO BOLTS. TORQUE BOLTS 95-105 FT-LBS (130-140 N-M).
O INSTALL GREASE FITTINGS (2) TO THE DRAG LINK. SEAT THE DRAG LINK BALL STUDS TO THE PITMAN ARM AND STEERING ARM. TORQUE THE NUTS 125-150 FT-LBS (170-205 N-M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN, SHEET 2.
O INSTALL SHORT HOSES TO THE COOLER LINE. SECURE WITH HOSE CLAMPS, SHEET 5 OR 6.
O INSTALL COOLER LINE TO THE FRONT OF THE RADIATOR, SHEET 5 OR 6 AND SECTION 3B OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.
O INSTALL NEW RESERVOIR TO THE RADIATOR SHELL. INSTALL HOSE(S) WITH SPRING(S) AND CONDUIT, TO CONNECT THE RESERVOIR TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP, SHEET 14 OR 15.
O INSTALL THE SHORT TUBE TO THE STEERING GEAR OUTLET PORT. CONNECT THE HOSE ON THE COOLER LINE TO THIS TUBE, SHEET 4. SECURE WITH HOSE CLAMP. TY-WRAP THE TWO COOLER HOSES TOGETHER.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET.
O INSTALL GREASE FITTING IN THE POWER CYLINDER.
O FULLY THREAD THE SOCKET ASSEMBLY TO THE POWER CYLINDER. TIGHTEN THE CLAMP BOLT TO 55 FT-LBS (75 N-M).
O POSITION THE DUST COVER OVER THE END OF THE POWER CYLINDER MOUNTING BRACKET.
O POSITION THE POWER CYLINDER ON THE FRAME MOUNTING BRACKET. CONNECT THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET TO THE PITMAN ARM. SEAT THE BALL STUD TAPER AND INSTALL BALL STUD NUT. TIGHTEN TO 150 FT-LBS (205 N-M). ADVANCE THE NUT TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN, SHEET 7.
O USING WRENCH J-26824, TIGHTEN THE END PLUG OF THE POWER CYLINDER TO 25 FT-LBS (35 N-M), THEN BACK OFF TO THE NEAREST COTTER PIN SLOT AND INSTALL A NEW COTTER PIN, SHEET 7.
O INSERT THE DUST COVER TANGS THROUGH THE COVER HOLES AND BEND TO SECURE, SHEET 7.
O INSTALL THE POWER CYLINDER LINES TO THE STEERING GEAR AND POWER CYLINDER AS ILLUSTRATED IN SHEET 8. NOTE THAT THE LINES WILL CROSS EACH OTHER.
O REINSTALL THE STEERING WHEEL.
O INSTALL SUPPORT BRACKET TO THE LEFT HAND ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD, SHEET 11 VIEW A, ITEM 4. TORQUE BOLTS 30-37 FT-LBS (40-50 N-M).
O INSTALL AND TORQUE THE FRONT SUPPORT BRACKET MOUNTING BOLTS TO THE FRONT OF THE LEFT HAND ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD TO 30-37 FT-LBS (40-50 N-M). DO NOT INSTALL THE LOWER LEFT HAND BOLT, SHEET 9 ITEM 4.
O ASSEMBLE OFF VEHICLE THE BELT GUIDE BRACKET, SHEET 9 ITEM 11, TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP BELT GUIDE. TORQUE THE TWO BOLTS 25-30 FT-LBS (34-40 N-M).
O INSTALL THE BELT GUIDE BRACKET ASSEMBLY TO THE FRONT SUPPORT BRACKET. THE RESERVOIR TO HYDRAULIC PUMP HOSE HOLDDOWN CLAMP WILL ALSO BE HELD BY THE BELT GUIDE ASSEMBLY TO THE FRONT SUPPORT BOLT, SHEET 9.
O INSTALL ADJUSTER PLATE, SHEET 9, ITEM 21, TO THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING, SNUG BOLT.
O ASSEMBLE OFF VEHICLE: FRONT BRACKET, SHEET 9 ITEM 19, TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. TORQUE TWO BOLTS 30-37 FT-LBS (40-50 N-M). PULLEY TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. TORQUE NUT 25-30 FT-LBS (34-40 NM). REAR BRACKET, SHEET 11 ITEM 1, TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. TORQUE THE TWO NUTS 15-20 FT-LBS (20-27 N-M).
O INSTALL ABOVE PUMP AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY TO THE VEHICLE, SHEET 9 AND 11.
O INSTALL DRIVE BELT, SHEET 11. ADJUST BELT TENSION TO 90-100 LBS (400-445 N-M). USE BELT TENSION GAGE J-23600-B WHEN CHECKING BELT TENSION. TORQUE NUT ON ADJUSTING PLATE 15-20 FT-LBS (20-27 N-M).
O TORQUE ALL REMAINING BOLTS AS SPECIFIED ON SHEETS 9 AND 11.
O REMOVE THE HOLD DOWN CLAMPS THE HIGH AND LOW PRESSURE HYDRAULIC LINES TO THE POWERHEAD AND STEERING GEAR, AND DISCARD, SHEET 12.
O INSTALL THE TUBE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY TO THE HIGH PRESSURE SIDE OF THE POWERHEAD AND HYDRAULIC PUMP, SHEET 12.
O INSTALL THE SHORT HOSE TO THE LOW PRESSURE SIDE OF THE POWERHEAD AND SECURE WITH A HOSE CLAMP. INSERT THE NEW HYDRAULIC TUBE IN THIS HOSE AND SECURE WITH A HOSE CLAMP. ATTACH REMAINING HOSE TO THE TUBE AND THE LOW PRESSURE SIDE OF THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. SECURE WITH HOSE CLAMPS, SHEET 12.
O INSTALL CLIPS AND ATTACHING PARTS TO HOLD THE HYDRAULIC LINES IN POSITION, SHEET 12.
O USE THE NYLON STRAPS TO RESECURE THE ELECTRICAL WIRES TO THE HYDRAULIC LINES AT THE POWERHEAD.
O USE THE NYLON STRAPS TO RESECURE THE ELECTRICAL WIRES TO THE HYDRAULIC LINES AT THE POWERHEAD.
O LUBE THE FOUR GREASE FITTINGS, TWO ON THE DRAG LINK, ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER AND ONE ON THE POWER CYLINDER SOCKET USING GREASE PART NUMBER 1052182 OR EQUIVALENT.
