THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE ABOVE MODEL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED WITH MECHANICAL CLUTCH LINKAGE AND EQUIPPED WITH THE FOLLOWING RPO/SEO TRANSMISSIONS:

A clutch lever binding condition may occur on some of the above subject vehicles. By design, there is a nylon bushing in the clutch control lever that pivots on the clutch bracket. When dirt and water contaminate the bushing surface, high pedal effort and poor returnability can occur, resulting in possible premature clutch wear.
To address this condition, a lubrication fitting may be installed on the clutch control lever, allowing for periodic lubrication.
Installation Procedure: (Fig. 1). -------------------------------- 1. Remove the cotter pins from the clutch control rod and fork push rod.
2. Remove the clutch control lever retaining ring and washer and pull the clutch control lever off the clutch bracket.
3. Place a snug fitting wooden dowel in the clutch control lever bushing to prevent bushing damage when drilling.
4. Using a #7 drill bit, drill a hole through one side of the clutch control lever hub and position the lubrication fitting so it will face toward the front of the vehicle when the clutch control lever is reinstalled (Fig. 1). Drilling should be performed on the left side of the clutch control lever. Tap the hole using a 1/8" tapered pipe tap.
5. Insert a standard straight 1/8" lubrication fitting P/N 9411022 .
6. Remove the wooden dowel.
7. Reinstall clutch control lever. Position lubrication fitting toward front of vehicle on inboard side.
8. Using the cotter pins, retaining ring and washer removed earlier, reattach the clutch control rod and fork push rod.
9. Lubricate as required.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
