Subject: | Revised Flushing Procedure for Contaminated Power Steering Reservoirs |
Models: | 1990-2000 All Chevrolet and GMC Medium Duty Commercial Vehicles |
Equipped with Remote Reservoirs |
When replacing a power steering (PS) pump, a thorough flush and cleaning of the PS system is necessary. If the system is not thoroughly flushed, metal contaminants may cause the replacement PS pump to wear prematurely.
When replacing a PS pump, use the following procedure. Refer to the Power Steering System subsection of the appropriate Medium Duty Service Manual for PS reservoir flushing and replacement procedures.
These additional steps should aid in removing any accumulation of contaminants from the bottom of the reservoir.
