Subject: | Release of New HVAC Control Assembly to Address Compressor Clutch Cycling |
Models: | 1990-2002 Chevrolet H-Model (C-Series) Conventional Cab Medium Duty Models |
1990-2002 GMC H-Model (C-Series) Conventional Cab Medium Duty Models |
with Sanden SD-7H15 A/C Compressor |
An investigation of repair occurrences on some of the above models has revealed a number of A/C compressor clutch overheat conditions. In most cases, the primary cause of the clutch overheat was excessive compressor clutch cycling because of low refrigerant charge or leaks in the system.
Engineering has released a new dash-mounted HVAC control assembly, P/N 15175656, that incorporates a built-in timer. This timer should reduce the maximum allowable cycles-per-minute to acceptable levels. Trucks that have been affected by repeat compressor overheat conditions may benefit from this new HVAC control assembly.
Before installing this new control assembly, you should properly diagnose and repair the A/C system. Properly repair leaks and install fluorescent refrigerant dye. Replace the compressor if required and ensure the correct refrigerant charge. Refer to the diagnostic information in Corporate Bulletin Number 02-01-37-002, dated March 2002.
