Condition

Upon routine inspection, the customer may comment that the front shock absorber(s) is cracked or is broken. This condition primarily occurs when the vehicle has been driven over very rough road surfaces or from high road impacts.

Cause

The shock absorber is the suspension travel limiter. On some applications, there may be sufficient rebound to extend the shock absorber to the end of its travel at such a rate that the shock cracks/breaks.

Correction

Inspect both front shock absorbers for evidence of cracking or breakage. Replace the affected shock absorber(s) with a new more robust shock absorber, P/N 19152843. Refer to the Shock Absorber Replacement procedure in SI.
