PARK BRAKE INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATES

SUBJECT: PARK BRAKE INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATES AND REMAINS ON (LUBRICATE VARIOUS LINKAGE PARTS)

MODELS: 1990-95 TOPKICK/KODIAK MODELS WITH JE3 HYDRAULIC BRAKES WITHOUT J71 POWER OPERATED PARKING BRAKE

CONDITION:

THE "PARK BRAKE" LAMP ILLUMINATES AND REMAINS ON.

CAUSE:

SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE THE PARK BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY PIN ACTUATOR HOLE AND LEVER FRAME PIN SLOTS WEARING DUE TO INSUFFICIENT LUBRICATION.

CORRECTION:

LUBRICATE THE LEVER ASSEMBLY PIVOT PIN, SLOT CLEVIS PIN, SLOTS AND PARKING BRAKE CABLE TO TRANSMISSION CLEVIS PIN ONCE A MONTH TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF ASSEMBLY WEAR. CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE PARKING BRAKE.

IMPORTANT: FREQUENT PARKING BRAKE OPERATION WILL REQUIRE LUBRICATION MORE OFTEN THAN ONCE A MONTH.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. APPLY A LIGHT COATING OF LUBRICANT, GM P/N 1052541 OR EQUIVALENT, TO THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER (FIGURE 1, ITEM 1), PIVOT PIN (FIGURE 1, ITEM 2), AND TO THE RH AND LH SIDE OF THE SLOT CLEVIS PIN (FIGURE 1, ITEM 3). 2. APPLY A LIGHT COATING OF THE SAME LUBRICANT TO THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE (FIGURES 2 AND 3, ITEM 1) CLEVIS PIN (FIGURES 2 AND 3, ITEM 2) LOCATED AT THE TRANSMISSION BRAKE. 3. CHECK ADJUSTMENT OF THE PARKING BRAKE. ADJUST, IF REQUIRED, FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURES PROVIDED IN THE APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL, UNDER SECTION 5F, PARKING BRAKE.
