Some of the above subject units may experience the lifting or blistering of the chassis paint. To correct, the vendor, BASF, recommends the following steps be taken:
1. Clean the surface to be painted with mild detergent and water. If surface corrosion is present use Sherwin Williams Metal Mate(R) (P/N W4K289).
2. Dry sand with aluminum oxide grit #400 sand- paper to remove all loose paint and prepare surface.
3. Apply three coats of R-M(R) (Rinshed-Mason) water-based primer #HP0100/Nova-Prime, per label instructions. Be sure to allow at least one minute between coats.
4. Flash dry and dry sand with #400 grit sandpaper.
5. Refinish with Miracryl (R) color #M-83320 flat black.
There are no General Motors part numbers for the above described prime and finish paints. BASF advises these paints are available over the counter at any R-M dealer. To locate your nearest R-M dealer, telephone 1-800-825-5000.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
