THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES GMC TRUCK SERVICE BULLETIN 92-6A-69, DATED APRIL 1992. IT WAS REVISED TO CORRECT THE LABOR OPERATION NUMBER. ALL COPIES OF 92-6A-69 SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Owners of some 1990-1992 TopKick/Kodiaks with Caterpillar 3116 diesel engines (RPO LXO) may comment on small perforations in the pleats of their air cleaner elements (P/N 15619013). Vibrations from the flow of air through the air cleaner cause the air cleaner element pleats to chafe against the inner liner. The chafing could result in small perforations in the creases of the pleats, To correct this condition, a revised air cleaner element (P/N 15696245) has been released with a spiral hot melt adhesive bead around the inside diameter of the element to prevent the chafing of the pleats.
1. Remove the cover from the end of the air cleaner housing.
2. Inspect the element. If a date code of December 1991 or newer or P/N 15696245 is on the end of the element (Figure 1) and a spiral hot melt adhesive bead is on the inside diameter of the element (Figure 2), no further action is required.
If the element has the old part number (P/N 15619013) or does not have a spiral hot melt adhesive bead, replace it with a revised air cleaner element (P/N 15696245).
3. Install the cover to the end of the air cleaner housing.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
