When disassembling a twin-countershaft Eaton Fuller transmission built after early 1989, you may notice a small rubber lip seal on the input shaft under the front cover. Previously built twin-countershaft transmissions were not manufactured with an input shaft shipping seal. The shipping seal was added for the sole purpose of eliminating oil leakage during shipment.
If this seal is found during repair on a twin-countershaft transmission, it should be removed. There is no need to install a replacement as this is a non-serviceable item. The transmission continues to be sealed during operation by the spiral cut grooves on the input shaft
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
