THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES PRODUCT SERVICE BULLETIN 90-7-500 TO UPDATE THE SERVICE INFORMATION AND ADD 1991 MODEL YEAR.
Synthetic transmission lubricant was utilized in the Eaton manual transmissions in 1990 and 1991 and will be in future Topkick/Kodiak vehicles as well.
The synthetic lubricant has a high viscosity index and low pour point. It contains inhibitors to guard against rust, oxidation and corrosion. It is SAE 50 viscosity grade transmission lubricant.
This lubricant may improve fuel economy, component protection and allow easier cold-weather shifting.
The recommended change interval for on-highway transmission use is every 250,000 miles or 5 years, whichever occurs first. No initial change should be performed.
Whenever performing major transmission repairs or reconditioning, the transmission should be refilled with fresh synthetic transmission lubricant.
Do not intermix a standard SAE 50 viscosity grade motor oil with synthetic transmission lubricants.
ONLY APPROVED SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION LUBRICANTS CAN BE USED. OTHER LUBRI- CANTS MUST NOT BE INTERMIXED INCLUDING NON-APPROVED SYNTHETIC PETROLEUM OR MINERAL BASED LUBRICANTS. *
WARRANTY MAY BE VOIDED IF THE CORRECT CHANGE INTERVAL IS NOT ADHERED TO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
