SEAT TRIM TEARS AT HINGE (INSTALL HINGE GUARD)

SUBJECT: SEAT TRIM TEARS AT HINGE OPENING (INSTALL HINGE GUARD)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-92 C5, C6, C7 WITH RPO ANZ ,AN8, AQ1, OR A58 SEAT TRIM

Owners of some 1990-1992 medium duty vehicles have experienced torn seat trim (cushion cover). This tear occurs in the area where the seat back hinge enters the lower cushion, refer to Figure 1. The tearing is caused by the seat back hinge rubbing against the underside of the trim on the seat cushion.

To correct this condition a guard has been designed to prevent the seat trim from rubbing on the metal hinge (P/N 15666209 RH & 15666210 LH).

Also available is a new seat cushion trim which has a looser cut and sew pattern. The new trim includes a polyethylene reinforcement sewn around the opening on the underside of the seat trim.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Insert a finger into the hinge opening in the seat trim.

2. Pull back the seat trim and expose the hinge, refer to Figure 1).

3. Slide the guard onto the hinge as illustrated in Figure 2.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
