General Motors has determined that some 1992 C6/7 TopKick/Kodiak medium duty trucks equipped with gasoline engines (LRO/LSO) and 105 amp or 124 amp alternators (K68/KW2), may have been built with engine harnesses containing a larger than specified fusible link. With a larger fusible link, the starter relay circuit and the auxiliary brake pump motor feed circuit may not be properly protected in the event of a "dead short".
To correct this condition, dealers should install a service jumper harness on all affected vehicles.
Involved are certain 1992 C6/7 TopKick/Kodiak medium duty trucks equipped with gasoline engines (LRO/LSO) and 105 amp or 124 amp alternators (K68/KW2), and built within the following VIN breakpoints:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
