SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 3D - REAR SUSPENSION - INCORRECT U-BOLT NUT TORQUE

MODELS: 1994-96 CHEVROLET AND GMC MEDIUM DUTY MODELS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO REVISE SECTION 3D-REAR SUSPENSION. REAR AXLES* REAR AXLE U-BOLT TORQUE CHANGE FOR ALL 1994 MODEL YEAR THROUGH 1996 MODEL YEAR MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS WITH SINGLE AXLES BEGINNING WITH THE VIN OF 1GDJ7H1M7RJ514916, USES 20MM AND 22MM U-BOLTS AND U-BOLT NUTS.

FOR THE 1994 MODEL YEAR, THE FOLLOWING TORQUE VALUES SHOULD BE ADDED:

*PAGE 3D-5--ALL VEHICLES WITH THE VIN OF 1GDJ7H1M7RJ514916 AND ON, THAT USE 22MM U-BOLTS AND U-BOLT NUTS, MUST TORQUE THE U-BOLT NUTS TO 425-450 NM (313-332 LB.FT.)

*PAGE 3D-20--ALL VEHICLES WITH THE VIN OF 1GDJ7H1M7RJ514916 AND ON, USING 20MM U-BOLTS AND U-BOLT NUTS, MUST TORQUE THE U-BOLT NUTS TO 375-400 NM (277-295 LB.FT.). ALL VEHICLES WITH THE VIN OF 1GDJ7H1M7RJ514916 AND UP, USING 22MM U-BOLT AND U-BOLT NUTS, MUST TORQUE THE U-BOLT NUTS TO 425-450 NM (313-332 LB.FT.). FOR THE 1995 MODEL YEAR, THE FOLLOWING TORQUE VALUES MUST BE REPLACED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

*PAGE 3D-5--THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY STATES THAT THE FINAL TORQUE FOR THE 22MM U-BOLT NUTS IS 400 NM (295 LB.FT.) THE FINAL TOQUE OF THESE U-BOLT NUTS SHOULD BE 425-450 NM(313-332 LB.FT.).

*PAGE 3D-19--THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY STATES THAT THE FINAL TORQUE FOR THE 20MM U-BOLT NUTS IS 350 NM (258 LB.FT.). THE FINAL TORQUE OF THESE U-BOLT NUTS SHOULD BE 375-400 NM (277-295 LB.FT.).

*PAGE 3D-19--THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY STATES THAT THE FINAL TORQUE FOR THE 22MM U-BOLT NUTS IS 400NM (295 LB.FT.) THE FINAL TORQUE OF THE U-BOLT NUTS SHOULD BE 425-450 NM (313-332 LB.FT.).

FOR THE 1996 MODEL YEAR THE FOLLOWING TORQUE VALUES MUST BE REPLACED BY THE FOLLOWING:

*PAGE 3D-5--THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY STATES THAT THE FINAL TORQUE FOR THE 22MM U-BOLT NUTS IS 400 NM (295 LB.FT.). THE FINAL TORQUE OF THESE U-BOLT NUTS SHOULD BE 425-450 NM (313-332 LB.FT.).

*PAGE 3D-19--THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY STATES THAT THE FINAL TORQUE FOR THE 20MM U-BOLT NUTS IS 350 NM (258 LB.FT.). THE FINAL TORQUE OF THESE U-BOLT NUTS SHOULD BE 375-400 NM (277-295 LB.FT.)
