Since 1982, the above subject vehicles have used a set screw to retain the cable knob on the choke cable. If the screw is not aligned properly with the groove in the choke cable, the knob may pull off the end of the cable. Revised parts will utilize a threaded choke knob and cable. This revision was incorporated into production on November 30, 1987, effective with the following vehicle identification numbers:
1GDJ6D1A5JV511866 (GMC)
1GBL7D1B6JV107210 (CHEVROLET)
Should retention conditions occur, the new cable and knob must be replaced as a set. Parts are available through GMSPO as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
