General Motors of Canada Limited has determined that CERTAIN 1995 Chevrolet and GMC P6 Chassis, C6/7 TopKick Medium Duty Conventional Trucks fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108, "Lighting Equipment" These vehicles were assembled with a transmission reverse signal switch that could leak resulting in loss of electrical contact when the transmission is in reverse. This condition could prevent the backup warning system (lights and audible alarm) from operating properly.
To correct this condition, dealers will replace the reverse signal pressure switch with one date coded 145 (14th week of 1995) or later.
Involved are CERTAIN 1995 Chevrolet and GMC P6 Chassis, C6/7 TopKick Medium Duty Conventional Trucks equipped with Allison AT/MT Series Automatic Transmissions built within the following VIN breakpoints:
1995 P6 Janesville J SJ106409 SJ519239 1995 C6/7 Janesville J SJ105366 SJ520157
All affected vehicles have been identified by the VIN listing provided to involved dealers with this bulletin. Any dealer not receiving a listing was not shipped any of the affected vehicles.
All unsold new vehicles in dealers possession and subject to this campaign MUST be held and inspected/repaired per the Service Procedure of this Campaign Bulletin before owners take possession of these vehicles.
Dealers are to perform this campaign on all involved vehicles at no charge to owners, regardless of kilometers traveled, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Owners, of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory with no owner information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required correction according to instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such owners a copy of the owner letter accompanying this bulletin. Campaign follow- up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the owner may not as yet have received the notification letter.
In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service in the future, please take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Refer to Section 4 of the Service Policies and Procedures Manual for the detailed procedure on handling Product Campaigns. Dealers are requested to complete the campaign on all transfers as soon as possible.
All owners of record at the time of campaign release are shown on the attached computer listing and have been notified by first class mail from General Motors (see copy of owner letter included with this bulletin). The listings provided are for campaign activity only and should not be used for any other purpose.
Parts required to complete this campaign should be ordered through regular channels, as follows:

Credit for the campaign work performed will be paid upon receipt of a properly completed campaign claim card or DCS transmission in accordance with the following:
6A Remove & Replace Reverse Signal Pressure Switch .5 Hr. (Includes Adding Transmission Fluid)
Time allowance includes 0.1 hour for dealer administrative detail associated with this campaign. Parts credit will be based on dealer net plus 40% to cover parts handling.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Place the transmission lever in Neutral (or in Park if equipped) and set the park brake. Check the wheels and follow all safety related precautions.
3. Disconnect the reverse signal pressure switch wiring harness connector from the 2 pin connector plug located approximately 16" from the switch assembly. The switch wiring harness assembly is located on the right-hand side of the transmission, above the fluid pan and near the center lower side of the transmission.
4. Unscrew the switch end of the harness assembly from the reverse port on the transmission using a 1- 1/16" open end wrench.
5. Apply a small amount of non-hardening LocTite Pipe Sealant with Teflon (P/N 992545), or equivalent on the threads of the new switch assembly.
6. Install a new reverse signal pressure switch assembly (with a date code of 145 or later).
- Screw the threaded switch end into the reverse port in the transmission. Tighten to 4-5 lb. ft. (5 to 7 N.m).
- Reconnect the opposite end of the reverse pressure switch wiring harness into the electrical connector plug.
7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
8. Start the engine, set the park brake and with your foot on the brake pedal, place the transmission shift control lever in reverse. Have a second person confirm the vehicle reverse warning lights and/or alarm function properly from the back of the vehicle.
9. With the engine running, place the transmission in Neutral (or in Park if equipped). Check the transmission fluid level. Add Dexron III fluid, if necessary, or an approved C-4 fluid to reach the "cold run" or "hot full" mark, depending on fluid temperature.
10. Install Campaign Identification Label.
Clean surface of radiator upper mounting panel and apply a Campaign Identification Label. Make sure the correct campaign number is inserted on the label. This will indicate that the campaign has been completed.
